This talk will focus on trigeminal neuralgia, a severe form of facial neuropathic pain, and the clinical challenges associated with its management. Conventional treatment strategies primarily target neurovascular conflict at the trigeminal nerve through surgical intervention. However, emerging research has shifted toward quantifying the central nervous system signatures of chronic neuropathic pain. Using advanced structural neuroimaging combined with machine-learning approaches, we investigate pain-related alterations in both the trigeminal nerve and brain networks. These models have improved outcome prediction and provide a framework for personalized treatment strategies. This area of work is an important and unique instance that demonstrates the role of machine learning models in elucidating the associated objective changes with a subjectively defined condition of chronic neuropathic pain.
